Adeline Gehrke

April 25, 1921 — September 8, 2009

Adeline Gehrke, 88, Wausau, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 surrounded by her loving family at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Adeline Francis Imhoff was born April 25, 1921 to the late John and Mary (Handrick) Imhoff in the Town of Cassel. Adeline met the love her life, Edward, at the Sunrise Dance Hall. The couple was married May 28, 1949 at Holy Name of Jesus Parish. Adeline and Edward were later blessed with the birth of their daughter, Carol.

We’re all better persons for having special people touch our lives. Heaven just opened its doors to one of those special people. We can all be assured that when it comes time to travel that path, she will welcome each of us with a smile, a greeting from the heart and an invitation to the get together that she certainly helped the Lord prepare.

Adeline loved to gather family and friends to celebrate the life that she loved, be it the 4th of July at the cottage, Christmas Eve at her home, birthdays and special family events, or the joyfully crowded rides on her pontoon boat.

She was a wonderful wife to Edward for 60 years, and an inspirational and loving mother to Carol. A very special grandma to Kati, Kari and Christopher, and an unforgettable “Great Bama” to Elijah and Quinn.

Adeline grew marvelous flowers; everything flourished under her care. She took all of the bounty from hers and Edwards garden, and through the fruits of her labors, turned it into a year round feast. A tireless worker, she never stopped until what she was working on was done.

Her faith had no limits, and her devotion to family was endless. She never missed an opportunity to cheer on her grandchildren in their academic and sporting accomplishments.

We will always remember her smile; that special encouraging word; the wink that told you it was alright; the cute little rhyme that would be her response to something you said.

We will always celebrate her life; to the world, she was one person, but to one person she just might be the world. Thank you for sharing your wonderful presence with each of us, you will be sadly missed, and a joy to remember.

Adeline is survived by her loving husband, Edward of Wausau; daughter, Carol (Tom) Gustafson of Wausau; grandson, Christopher (Jeny) Gustafson of Wausau; granddaughters, Kati (Jose) Gustafson-Agoncillo of Holly Springs, NC and Kari (Ryan) Gaffaney of Clinton, UT; great-grandchildren, Elijah Gustafson and Quinn Gaffaney; brother, Leonard Imhoff; sisters, Catherine Buchberger and Alvina Jacobi, brother-in-law, Lawrence DeLisle; sister-in-law, Alice Imhoff; her beloved kitty, Lucy; and many extended family and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her infant brother, John; brother, William Imhoff; sister, Irene DeLisle; brothers-in-law, Alfred Buchberger and Harvey Jacobi; and sister-in-law, Loretta Imhoff.
