Arthur "Art" Verick

Arthur “Art” Leo Verick, 91, of Wausau, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, with his loving family at his side.

Art was born in Freeport, Illinois on June 28, 1928 to the late Albert and Cecilia (Arenz) Verick. After graduating from High School, on July 21, 1947, Art enlisted and served his country honorably in the United States Navy until April 21, 1950. He met, fell in love and married Vangie Beverly Imm on November 22, 1952. Together they had 8 wonderful children; Or as Art loved to say, he was the father of seven daughters and they each had one brother.

Throughout his life, Art was an avid fisherman, hunter and Wisconsin sports fan. He enjoyed playing ball until he was 62 years old, sang with the choir and loved to make people smile. Arthur always said he just wanted to be remembered as a servant to his Lord and Savior. Though his family will miss him dearly, they know that he is now at peace in the arms of God.

Art is survived by his second wife, Bernadine Verick of Presque Isle, WI; his eight children, David (Polly) Verick of Wausau, Jeannette Verick of St. Cloud, MN, Kathy (Paul) Anderson of Wausau, Peggy (Scott) Buckman of Wausau, Susie Koltz of Wausau, Jacqueline (Jim) Schira of Wausau, Melissa “Lisa” (Randy) Pliska of Wausau and Jennifer (Jerry) Smith of Wausau; 16 grandchildren, Mallory, Olivia, Juli, Justine, Carl, Samantha, Sheila, Michael, Bobby, Jacob, Jessie, Cassandra, Coltan, Brooke, John Henry and Bailey; seven great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Macy, Alice, Hunter, Jasper, Jackson and Greyson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Vangie, and his siblings.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 501 Stewart Ave, Wausau. Pastor Gary Schultz will officiate. Visitation will take place from 2:00 pm until the time of services at the church. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery on Monday, November 18, 2019 where military honors will be provided by the American Legion Montgomery-Plant-Dudley Post 10.
