Barbara Leitermann

October 8, 1937 — September 15, 2016

Our dear Mother, Barbara Josephine Leitermann came into this world on October 8th 1937, the daughter of the late Norman and Katherine (Lach) Wolfe. Together with her brothers Tom and David and sister Karin, she grew up in Wausau where she attended school and graduated from Wausau Senior High in 1955.

On December 1st 1956, she was united in marriage to Layton Leitermann, at St. Anne Parish, Wausau. The couple and their three children lived in Wausau until 1982 when Layton and Barbara moved to their lake home on beautiful shores of Squash Lake in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Living on the lake brought great pleasure to Barbara where she enjoyed the serenity and beauty of the changing seasons, while often sharing the good life with visiting family, friends and neighbors, producing uncountable memories of so many marvelous and happy days. These great memories will be the family's longest lasting inheritance. Some of the longest winter months were spent in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where the couple enjoyed walking the beach, playing golf and spending time with friends in the sun.

Known for her artistic flare and creativity. Using everything from paint brushes to pens to concrete, Barbara was able to craft and accent her surroundings with a style and dazzle that reflected her personality and brought wonder to those around her. Barbara was a longtime member of the Inshalla Country Club in Tomahawk, Wisconsin where she enjoyed golfing in league or just hitting the ball around with Layton and the kids.

On September 15th 2016, Barbara J. Leitermann passed away peacefully with her three children by her side at Aspirus hospital in Wausau. Our parents greatest legacy will be the strong values, morals and judgement they instilled while raising us their three children. Their loving guidance and direction gave us the tools and empowered us into our transformation from dependent children to successful adults with our own families. They will be greatly missed.

Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her three children Mark (Susan Schymanski) Leitermann, Linda (Robert) Wendorf and Charles (Patty) Leitermann; seven grand children Daniel Leitermann, Robyn (Ryan) Renderman, Ryan (Holly) Wendorf, Tyler Wendorf, Evan Leitermann, Chad Leitermann and Brad Leitermann three great-grandchildren, Riah and Reid Renderman and Leyton Wendorf; brothers David Wolfe, Thomas (Paula) Wolfe, sister Karin (Robert) Thomas; brother-in-law Wayne (Chris) Leitermann; many nieces and nephews; and numerous other family members and friends. She was preceded in death my her devoted husband Layton Leitermann in January 2014.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday September 20th, at Saint Anne Parish, Wausau; with Father Alan Burkhardt officiating. A private interment will follow in Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Marathon. Family will receive guests for visitation on Tuesday, at church from 9:30 a.m. until the service. You may sign our family guestbook at www.helke.com.
