Bernard Schmidt Sr

Bernard G. Schmidt Sr., 91, Wausau, passed away on September 4, 2016 under the care of hospice at his home.

He was born November 12, 1924 in Wausau, the son of the late Herman and Ester (Bremer) Schmidt.

During World War II he was recruited to work for the U.S. Government in the Naval shipyard in Bremerton, WA. He met Anna Leider while home on leave. They were married on July 17, 1945 in Seattle, WA and they just celebrated their 71st anniversary.

He was the owner of Raybern Electric Service doing industrial commercial wiring and had many loyal customers.

Survivors include his four children Coreen (Roger) Poeske, Wausau, Bernard (Marcia) Schmidt, Wittenburg, Gail (Dr. Harry) Momont, Madison and Diane (Dr. Raymond) Podzorski, Fitchburg; Nine grandchildren, Heath (Missy) Poeske, Jason (Leslie) Poeske, Jennifer (Nick) Halsey, Heather (Neil) Jacobson, Holly (Matt) Reif, Daniel (Dr. Farah Kaiksow) Momont, Dr. Anna Momont (Ariel Molvig), Sarah Podzorski, Hannah Podzorski; and 10 great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters Ruth Loiz and Ethel Goede; and three brothers Vernon, Wilbert, and Raymond Schmidt.

Bernard enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling and traveling.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Friday, September 9th, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Zach Holdorf will be officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service at church on Friday. Entombment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
