The overwhelming love that Bernette Kurth had for her family, showed in the care she gave them every day of her life. It showed in her home cooked meals with garden fresh vegetables, made from scratch pies, hand sewn clothes for the children, hand made dolls and teddy bears for the grandchildren, or simply her daily prayers for their well being, family was Bernette’s priority.
She was born September 23, 1924 in the town of Holton to the late Herbert and Amanda (Junker) Jacobi. After graduating from high school, Bernette attended Portage County Normal School. After achieving her degree, she taught in several Marathon County grade schools. On September 8, 1951, she married Henry Kurth in the town of Wausau. For many years, they dairy farmed in the town of Hewitt. Later, Bernette was a Certified Nursing Assistant at North Central Health Care, then a Senior Aid at Mount View Care Center and also at Crossroads Mental Health Services. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, town of Easton and had volunteered at the Salvation Army. Her hobbies included knitting, needlework, reading, traveling, and going to concerts and plays.
At the age of 85, Bernette passed away on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include her children, Paula (Arden) Krueger of Wausau, Aaron (Faith) Kurth of Minocqua, Linda (Thomas) Jagodinski of Wausau, Timothy (Julie) Kurth of Mosinee, Kay (Darrell) Ramthun of Wausau, fourteen grandchildren, Rebecca (Tom) Mroczenski, Paul (Gina) Krueger, Amanda (Kory) Gilderman, Anna and Andrew Kurth, Elizabeth (John) Roth, Phillip Jagodinski, Leeroy, Elisa, and James Kurth, Eric (Megan) Ramthun, Benjamin, Laura, and Michael Ramthun, six great grandchildren, Eleanor, Joshua, and William Mroczenski, Isabelle Krueger, Asher and Haley Gilderman, four brothers, Gilbert (Frances) Jacobi of Wausau, Melvin Jacobi of Arbor Vitae, Orville (Adeline) Jacobi of Aniwa, Lloyd (Dorothy) Jacobi of Wausau, two sisters, Bernice Roeder of Wausau, Leona Braun of Edgar, and one sister-in-law, Erna Bahlow of Merrill. Bernette was preceded in death by Henry, three brothers, Roland, Herbert, and Clarence, three sisters, Clara and Ruth Jacobi, Erma (John) Stange, sister-in-law, Marion Jacobi and two brothers-in-law, Henry Roeder and Floyd Braun.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 6, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church, town of Easton. Reverend David Faulkner will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
