Mom was called home May 18th, 2013, to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Berttie was born October 29th, 1932, in Wausau, to the late William and Laura (St. Clair) Wood. She grew up in Wausau with her four sisters, Mickey, Marcy, Arleta, and Gerry. Mom stayed close to her sisters and loved them very much. As a teenager, Mom was a candy striper and took care of the children with Polio. In 1952, she married Willard "Willie" Farrar and started a family. They had five children, Tom, Jim, Laurie, Tim, and David. For the next 12 years, they moved a lot and did many different things to support their family, including running a block plant on Highway U and a service station on 17th Avenue and Sherman Street, in Wausau.
Berttie and Willie separated in 1964; and thus began the journey of Mom raising five children on her own, which meant four rowdy young boys. For the next eight years, Berttie and her kids moved from Wausau to Rothschild to Rockford, IL. With little money, a LOT of LOVE, and an occasional "Spock hold," Mom taught her children to respect others, and if you fall down, you get up.
Mom always had food on the table and clean cloths hanging on the line, Mom loved her children more than life itself. She would take long walks with her daughter Laurie for miles.
In 1972, Mom moved us kids back to Wausau. She reunited with an old boyfriend, Robert Trigg, from her teenage years, and they were married September 1st, 1972, and started a new life together. Bob was a wonderful man; he loved us kids as if we were his own. Life became a little easier for Mom, she continued to work part-time at social services and in the Shang Gardens with her daughter-in-law, Sara, talking and joking for hours. Mom and Bob loved taking long walks, gardening, fishing, and spending time with her family.
For the past eight years, osteoporosis had settled in Mom's bones and with that came a lot of pain. Us kids did whatever we could to help out, but most of all, our sister, Laurie, has been the Angel; spending almost every day after work with her and most every weekend.
Before passing, Mom became a great-great-grandma. We will miss her very, very much; she has always been our rock. One of her last requests was "TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER." May God be with you Mom, see you in heaven.
Berttie is survived by her five children, Tommy (Lois Pickett) Farrar of Weston, James (Rita Russ) Farrar of Wausau, Laurell Farrar of Weston, Tim (Linda Luedtke) Farrar of Rothschild, and David (Sara) Farrar of Rothschild; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer of Dyer, IL, Quinne Farrar of Wis. Rapids, Ariel and Lorelei Farrar of California, Chris (Angel) Farrar of Schofield, Joe (Melissa Orkzesik) Farrar of Wausau, Tamie (Steve) Younger of Wausau, Travis (Angie) Farrar of Mosinee, Andy Farrar of Schofield, James (Diana) Farrar Jr. of New Jersey, Justin Farrar of Wausau, Melissa (Josh) Farrar of New York, and Brandon and Wyatt Farrar of Wausau; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Gerry Wolfe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Marcy, Mickey, and Arleta; and two grandchildren, Coni Jean Norton and William Tommy Picket.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Christian Assembly, 400 Grand Ave., Wausau, with Dennis Romine, Pastor, officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau.
