Betty Deffner, 80, Wausau, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at Rennes Health & Rehab in Weston under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
Betty was born May 14, 1934 in Wausau to the late Max and Dorothea (Erickson) Lehman. At 14 years of age she met her future husband, Alvin Deffner when they were in 4H together. Betty graduated from Wausau High School and married the love of her life on February 19, 1955 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church. Since she was an only child, she had a desire for a large family, and the couple was blessed with 7 children. She retired from K-Mart where she worked for many years. Betty and Alvin celebrated 58 wonderful years together prior to Alvin's death on December 27, 2013.
Betty was a strong woman and good mother who always put her family first above all her needs. She taught her children the importance of love, family and spending time together. Any visit to her home would guarantee wonderful home cooked food and baked treats. Betty's favorite times were always with family sharing stories and laughing, often at the cabin on the lake in Winchester.
Betty's life was not always hard work, she found many other activities to enrich her life. Betty was a Den Mother to her boys when they were in Cub Scouts and taught Sunday School at St. Stephen Lutheran Church where she has been a life-long member .She and Alvin joined a snowmobile club and enjoyed trail riding with good friends for many years. Quieter time at home often found her working in her vegetable garden, doing embroidery, and working on puzzles.
Betty is survived by her loving children, Arnold Deffner of Wausau, Barbara (Dale) Cybela of Brown Deer, Charles (Lynn) Deffner of Rothschild, Ronald (Karen) Deffner of Green Bay, Jeanette (Seth) Wiskow of Weston, Joseph (Karen) Deffner of Aniwa and David (Paula) Deffner of Kronenwetter; grandchildren, Stephanie and Trent Cybela, Caleb (J.J.)
