Betty Genz

Betty M. Genz of Windham, ME, died Wednesday morning, February 11, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Portland, ME. She was 77 years old.


Born on December 23, 1931 in Merrill, WI to James A. Kellar and Anna C. Lunde, Betty graduated from Merrill High School, then left Merrill and married David J. Genz in Weiser, ID on June 24, 1950.


A history buff, she enjoyed traveling to many parts of the United States and lived in several towns from coast to coast. She resided in Menasha, WI, from 1972 to 1990 before moving to Maine. She visited and collected data on most of the forts along the eastern sea coast, and also compiled her extensive family tree for sharing with family.


She leaves her husband of almost 59 years, David J. Genz (also of Windham, ME) and four children: John D. Genz (Kathy), Colorado Springs, CO; DonnaLee Moore (Wayne), Milton, NC; Linda Piechowski (James), Oshkosh, WI; and Steven Genz (Rena), Menasha, WI; and seven grandchildren now living in Florida, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Virginia. She is also survived by four sisters and one brother: Florence C. Kulawinski (Richard), Missoula, MT; Mable J. Kurth (Don), Schofield, WI; Mildred M. Ott (LeRoy), Judy A. Sukow (David) and Carl A. Kellar of Merrill, WI.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert J. Kellar; and her sister, Valeda J. Carlson.


Cremation took place on February 13, 2009. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m.,  at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 512 McClellan Street, Wausau, WI, on May 15, 2009, with Pastor Dennis Creswell officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the family plot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau, WI.
