Carol J. Little, age 83, died Monday, December 12, 2016 at the Mount View Care Center in Wausau. Carol was born on January 9, 1933 to Helen (Mogensen) Mathie and Richard Mathie. She is preceded in death and survived by many descendants of maternal grandparents Jenny and John Mogensen and paternal grandparents Louis and Theresa Mathie.
As a child in the later years of the Great Depression, Carol attended grade school in the Town of Wausau. She had fond memories of walking to the Hillgrove School from her home on the Mathie family farm. She completed her grade school years at Zion Lutheran School in Wausau. As a teenager, Carol worked as a health aide under the direction of the nuns at the former St. Mary's Hospital in Wausau and went on in later years to work as a health aide at D.C. Everest Junior High School and eventually as a health care aide with what was then the Marathon County home health service.
Graduating from Wausau High School in 1951, Carol soon after met the love of her life, Tom Little and they were married on September 20, 1953. It was a beautiful wedding in the then newly built Zion Lutheran Church on Sixth Street in Wausau, with accompanying reception and dinner at the Normandy Supper Club on the banks of the Eau Claire River. Their first home together was in Tennessee while Tom was in the Army, and upon returning to Wausau they began their family with 2 sons, first Patrick, and soon after Tim. They camped through the years of their kids and with that came a love of the natural world. Carol was an accomplished counted cross stitch enthusiast and in later years was a fan of the Turner Classic Movies channel.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Little; son Patrick Little and special aunt Beatrice Trempe. Survivors include her son, Tim, Wausau; grandchildren Willow and Jeremiah, Patrick's children, LaCrosse; sisters, Mary Kostuck, Wausau; Joanne (Don) Irwin, Colorado and Sue (Bob) Petrowski, Mosinee; brothers Jack (Patricia) Mathie and Mike (Terry) Mathie, both of Wausau; sister-in-law Vivian Thompson, Wausau and brother-in-law Jack (Betty) Little, Anderson, Indiana; many cousins, nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Mountain Terrace Senior Living and the Lakeview Heights Unit at Mount View Care Center, as well as Aspirus Hospice, for their care and compassion.
