Carol Schindler

February 11, 1936 — June 30, 2008

Carol D. Schindler, 72, Wausau, died Monday, June 30, 2008, at the Hospice House, Wausau.

Carol was born in Duluth, MN in 1936 to William and Bertha Lindsay. She attended Northwestern High School in Maple, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of Superior State College where she met her husband, Tom Schindler. They were married in June of 1961.

In 1970, the family, which now included three children, moved to Rib Mountain. In this home, many young people and church singles discovered Carol’s gift of hospitality. Even a touring bicyclist was fed, given a spare bed, and sent on his way with a bag of Carol’s chocolate chip cookies. Many students discovered her gentle way of assisting them as she worked in the GOAL lab at NTC.

Carol had a great sense of humor and loved to clown around with her children and grandchildren. Pancake fights in the back yard sent her grandchildren to their knees in hysterical laughter. Not even a future son-in-law was spared her secret recipe for chocolate topping which hardened immediately to a sticky taffy. The first dip of a spoon resulted in the entire chocolate mass lifting off the ice cream.

Even in the last days of her struggle with pancreatic cancer, Carol’s glowing smile and warm brown eyes embraced everyone who came to visit her. Her deep faith and trust in God sustained her. Words fail. She was a gift.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Schindler; three children, Mark (Sheila) Schindler—Miamisburg, OH, Dan (Mary Beth) Schindler—Wausau, WI, and Kathryn (Tim) Johnson—Oconomowoc, WI; her sister Joan (Bud) Jones—Port Clinton, OH; her brother Dale (Renie) Hannan, and eleven grandchildren. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Kenneth Allan, and her brother, Bill Hannan.

Visitation and a Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 8 th , at Highland Community Church, 1005 N 28 th Ave, Wausau, WI 54401-2498. Visitation will occur from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The Memorial Service will begin at 5:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family are asked to designate checks to “HCC” with the memo “Humanitarian Aid, Sudan.”

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.
