Charles Robert Eugene Goers, 71, of Wausau, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center.
Charles was born December 13, 1938, in Wausau, the son of the late Robert and Irene (Gesicki) Goers. On September 30, 1961, he was united in marriage to Marie Louise Selmer, in Tomahawk, WI. After their marriage, Charles was called to active duty with the 32nd Division of the Army National Guard, in Fort Lewis, WA. He served from 1961 to 1962. Upon his return, he was employed by Wausau Concrete for a short while. He then started working for the City of Wausau, Department of Public Works, where he remained for 37 years.
He was a man with a witty sense of humor, enjoying life and living it to the fullest. He was always ready to get out and about within the community. His days were spent with his grandchildren, going to rummage sales with Marie, and keeping up with his favorite sport, bowling. He and Marie were lifetime members of the Wisconsin Valley Fair. Charles looked forward to this week year after year and would plan to spend the entire week at the park. He also enjoyed playing cribbage, attending stock car races and was a lifelong Packers fan.
In March 2002, Charles suffered a stroke and has called Colonial Manor home ever since. There he enjoyed playing bingo, dominoes and participating in outings, which included attending Woodchuck games, going out to eat and the Wisconsin Valley Fair.
He will be sadly missed by his 2 daughters, Monica (Bill) Krueger, Mosinee, and Christine (Tom) Sosinsky, Wausau; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Goers, Stephanie Rothenberger, April (Mark) Luebbe, and Russ Krueger; great-grandson, Dominick Luebbe; and many other family members, special friends, and neighbors.
Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Marie, who died November 23, 2009.
A funeral service celebrating Charles’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 13th, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Stewart Avenue, Wausau. The Reverend Joel Brandt will officiate. The family will receive guests from 2:00 p.m. until the service time, at the church on Sunday. Entombment will be Monday, June 14th at 10:00 a.m., at the Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Colonial Manor for all the love and care they have provided Charles over the past 8 years. We would also like to thank you, Dr. Suto, and the UW Health Staff.
