Charles Plautz

December 11, 1926 — September 4, 2009

Charles John Frank Plautz entered eternal glory on September 4, 2009, in the care of the Hospice House, in Wausau.

Born to John and Dora (Baumann) Plautz in Wausau, on December 11, 1926, he was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, attending the Lutheran day school for eight years. He graduated from Wausau High School in 1944. In December 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Having received an honorable discharge after two years of service, Chuck married Dorothy (Block) at Trinity, on April 19, 1947. Moving to Abbotsford in 1961, he began his own grocery business. In 1967, he began 22 years of service at Piggly Wiggly grocery stores. Retiring in 1989, Chuck worked part-time for Sears in Brown Deer, for 12 years. In August of 2004, Chuck and Dorothy moved back to Wausau to be near family.

As a younger man he enjoyed playing fast pitch softball on a church team and later in life took up golf. But what his family and friends will remember him for is his unselfish service to the Lord Jesus in many ways.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy; sons, Pastor William (Rosemary) of Chippewa Falls and Thomas (Lauri) of Wausau; daughter, Kathy (Michael) Vick of Lake Forest, CA; brother, Joe (JoAnn) and sister, Karen (John) Jauch, both of Wausau; sisters-in-law, Carol Plautz of Wausau, and Donna Ray of Kankakee, IL; grandchildren, Allison (Joe) Ford, Chris (Julie) Plautz, Melissa (James) Fife, Troy Plautz, Ryan Plautz (financée, Elizabeth Kuchenbecker), Christopher and Andrew Vick; great-grandchildren, Hero, Allegra, Ian, Colin, and Cecily Fife, and Brecken Ford; nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, James and Eugene.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at Restlawn Memorial Park, in the mausoleum chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 a.m., in the mausoleum chapel. Pastor Joel Brandt, of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau, will officiate. The committal will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to: Concordia Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN; Concordia University, Seward, NE; or the American Cancer Society.
