Charles Norvan Plier

May 15, 1942 – January 21, 2025

Charles “Chuck” Plier, 82, Wausau, WI, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025 surrounded by his devoted and loving family. Chuck was born on May 15, 1942 in Wausau to Norvan and Winifred Plier. Chuck recently celebrated his 64th wedding anniversary with the love of his life, Maxine (Dallman) Plier.

After many years in the paperboard packaging industry, Chuck ventured out on his own, spearheading the founding of Wausau Container Corporation. Over 30 years later, the business continues a tradition of service to its customers, employees, and the Wausau area.

Chuck had a knack for seeing the potential in people and encouraging them to reach for it. His motto in life and business was “focus on the positives and build on those, the rest will fall into place.”

Even greater than the joy he derived from starting and running his own business was the joy that his family brought to him. He was a devoted and caring husband, a loving and supportive father, and “the best Papa in the world.” Memories abound; searching for pirate’s booty buried on Treasure Island at the lake home, countless hours on the water fishing and tubing, skating on the perfectly groomed ice rink, showing up in elaborate Halloween costumes ready to trick or treat and passing out Christmas presents wearing his Santa hat. The best memory of all is the endless love, interest in our lives and encouragement that he gave to all of us. We were well loved and blessed to have him.

Chuck thrived on activity. He loved home and yard projects and could build and fix anything. He found pure bliss while casting a line on Lake Shishebogema. Time at “the cabin” was special. Built by Chuck and his son, Jeff, with the help of family and friends, it was a true escape. Deer seasons (and the necessary preparation) were the high point. Stories told again and again as new tales emerged will never be forgotten.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Maxine; his son Jeff (Amy) Plier; his daughter Kelly Plier-Kirsh; grandchildren Sydney (Matt) Noe, Charles Kirsh, Katherine Plier and Elizabeth Plier; great- granddaughter Caroline Noe; and sister Nancie Iverson.

There will be a funeral service at 11:00am on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Church of the Resurrection, 621 N. Second Street, Wausau. Visitation will be from 9:30am until the time of the service.
