Chuck Holdorf was a man who loved God and his church. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he helped lead and attend Bible Study, a congregational past president and elder, as well as providing ministerial calls.
On January 15, 1926, he was born in Cumberland to the late William and Mary (Hansen) Holdorf. While singing in the church choir, Chuck met his future wife, Doris Jann. Married at First Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, they celebrated 62 years of marriage this past August 31st. Chuck was an insurance agent in Rice Lake, operated his own agency in Eau Claire, and retired from the Insurance Center in Wausau.
Very proud of his country, Chuck was a veteran of the Army Air Corp serving during WWII. He enlisted with the Wisconsin National Guard serving 21 years. After 39 years in the military, Lt. Colonel Charles Holdorf retired from the Army Reserve.
One of Chuck’s passions was singing. While living in Eau Claire, he sang in the Eau Claire Male Chorus, then with the church choir at Trinity and 25 years with the Wausau Barbershop Chorus.
At the age of 84, Chuck passed away Friday, May 14, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Wausau, one daughter, Janet Osborne of St. Paul, MN, one son, Peter (Clarissa) Holdorf of Bryant, five grandchildren, Shawne (Jarrod) Stenberg, Christopher (Amy) Osborne, Matthew Osborne, Nathan Holdorf, Harley Royce, two great grandchildren, Sam and Kate, two brothers, Henry (Shirleen) Holdorf of Janesville and Edward Holdorf of Ellsworth and nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his son-in-law, David Osborne and sister-in-law, Joann Holdorf.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. Reverend Joel Brandt will officiate. Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
