Cindy L. Schmidt, 53, of Wausau, passed away Tuesday August 24, 2010 at the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Cindy was born February 2, 1957, in Wausau, the only child of Dorian and Joan (Hanke) Schmidt.
Cindy was best known for her winning smile and thoughtfulness. Always loving and never judging is how her many friends remember her. As a social butterfly, she was always happiest when surrounded by friends and family. Cindy excelled at her many jobs over the years, but she is probably best remembered as a bartender at Schmidt’s Bar, the family owned business. She loved to play a variety of games, especially pool, darts, cribbage and cards, and she could always be counted on to attend and cheer on the Schmidt sponsored athletic teams.
Although faced with many health issues in the last few years of her life, Cindy always maintained a positive, ‘can do’ attitude. She dealt with whatever life threw at her with grace and quiet strength, and lived her life on her terms, right up to the end. Cindy described her last week of life as a wonderful ride, surrounded by family and the multitude of friends who came to reminisce and say good-bye.
Survivors include her mother, Joan, Wausau. Cindy considered her mother her best friend and ensured Joan would be well taken care of. Other survivors include uncles and aunts, Jerome (Audrey) Schmidt, Wausau, Sharon Carlsson, Wausau, Jeanne (Bill) Erdman, Sun Prairie, Verona (Emil) Braatz, Marathon, and Lavern (Jan) Hanke, Waupaca. She is also survived by her great-aunt Vera Krueger, Wausau and Godchild, April (Mike) Krueger, Wausau.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Dorian. We are sure they are now together, laughing as they relive all the pranks they played on everyone throughout the years. Also preceding her in death are her grandparents, Lorton and Irene (Buttke) Schmidt and Bill and Flora Hanke.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Robert Brebrick and the staff of the Surgical, ICU, and Palliative Care Units of Aspirus Wausau Hospital for the loving and compassionate care they gave Cindy throughout the years.
