Clarence A Schmirler passed away, after a long battle with cancer, at his home in Kronenwetter, WI on Monday, August 17, 2015 at the age of 89.
Clarence is survived by his spouse Ruth Schmirler; his sister, Valarie Matushak, Wausau; son, Kenneth (Kathy) Schmirler, Wausau; daughter, Jeanne (Gerald) Steidtman, Racine and sister-in-law, Esther Schmirler, Schofield. Three grandchildren: John Steidtman, Waterford; David (Laura) Steidtman, Kenosha and Eric Schmirler of Wausau. Four great- grandchildren: Saxon Schmirler, Texas; Emma Steidtman, Kenosha, Evan Steidtman, Kenosha, Michael (Jennifer) Steidtman, Neenah; step-great-grandson, Justin (Tiffany) Malin, Neenah and two step-great-great grandchildren, Madelynn and Mason Malin, Neenah.
He is preceded in death by parents, Walter and (Justina Sass) Schmirler; brothers, Roman Schmirler, Norbert Schmirler and sister Sheila Burns.
Clarence was born on August 8, 1926 in Bruno, Saskatchewan, Canada. At the age of 12 he came to the U.S.
He graduated from Wausau High School, served in the US Army during WWII, and held varied jobs including owner of the Bee Hive Bar, Wausau, owner of the Village Pump in Hatley, WI, and owned and ran his own solar heating business. He worked as an electrician for Zimpro Passavant, Rothschild. Retiring in 2000. On June 23, 1945 he married the love of his life, Ruth and they celebrated their 70th anniversary this past June. His interests included; fishing in Canada, Model Railroading, snowmobiling, and taking photos of family and friends. He was a master of many trades and was well liked by everyone who knew him.
A funeral service is scheduled for 12:00 PM Friday, August 21, 2015 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Weston, WI. Pastor Ray Connor will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00-12:00 at the church. There will be an interment service at the Restlawn Cemetery in Wausau at 2:00 PM.
