Clark Edward Barry, 98, died February 19, 2009, at North Central Health Care Center, in Wausau, WI, with family members at his bedside.
Clark was born March 2, 1910, in Grey Eagle, MN, to the late Clark James and Bernice (Potter) Barry. He was a graduate of Sauk Center, MN High School and alumnus of Northland College, Ashland, WI. After high school, he served three years in the Minnesota National Guard prior to moving to Wisconsin.
He married Faith Victoria Meredith on February 8, 1934, in Mellen, WI. The couple established residence in Ashland, WI, in 1941, when Clark was appointed Clerk of the Circuit Court for Ashland County. A four-term incumbent in 1950, Clark moved on to the position of City Assessor for Ashland. In 1955, he was accepted as a regional assessor with the State of Wisconsin, at Sparta. Upon serving with the state for 20 years, Clark retired in 1975, at Wausau, his last assigned office.
He was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Masons. Fraternally, he was a past member and secretary for the Ashland Eagles Club and member of the Wisconsin Elks.
Clark actively volunteered his services as a tax preparer at the Commission for the Aging and participated in the Alzheimer’s Association fund raisers. While in Ashland, he was the local chair for the March of Dimes campaign for many years.
During his leisure hours, Clark had been an avid fisherman and hunter in younger years, enjoying the outdoors activities. College and NFL football were high on his list as relaxers. Around the house, he was a “Mr. Fix-It”, and always had some projects going on. He liked gardening, when the weather permitted, and always raised a nice variety of flowers in his yard.
