Clayton E. Stubbe Sr., 88, Wausau, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Clayton was born October 2, 1920 in Wausau to the late Edward and Ella (Reissmann) Stubbe. He graduated from Wausau Senior High School in 1938 and went on for one year of vocational machinist training. Clayton served his country during WWII with the US Army Artillery in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Southern France. Clayton married Helen Weinberger October 2, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tigerton. He worked for what is now known as Federal Mogol for many years as a machinist and retired as a supervisor.
Clayton was always a good father and instilled a value of serving. He served on many committees at Trinity Lutheran Church, work, American Legion Post #10 and VFW Bruns Post #388. Clayton took a great deal of pride in serving in the VFW Burns Post #388 Honor Guard for many years. In his younger days, Clayton enjoyed fishing with Helen and the kids. Clayton was an avid golfer going out on the course whenever he had the chance, even scoring a hole in one. He also enjoyed woodworking in his free time.
Clayton is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Sr.; daughters, Leslie Ann (William) Jones and Helen Jr. (Tom) Rhyner; son, Clayton (Rita) Stubbe Jr.; 7 grandchildren, Jonathon Jones, Aaron Jones, Hilary (Joseph) Lambert, Kimberly (Matt) Baumann, Beth (Jason) Ruether, Jennifer (Joe) Hintz, and Sarah Stubbe; and 11 great-grandchildren, Lindsy, Ashley, Calvin, Hayley, Savannah, Zach, Kyle, Christopher, Madilyn, Allison, and Emma Jo; brothers, Donald (Jeanette) Stubbe and Edward (Marge) Stubbe; and many extended family and friends. He is preceded by his sister, Lucille Streck and brother, Floyd Stubbe.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, January 19, 2009 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Pastor Matthew Hein will be officiating. Visitation will be Monday, January 19, 2009 at Helke Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 AM and lasting until the time of services.
