David Buettner

May 8, 1957 — August 24, 2014

David Laurence Buettner, 57, Wausau, died Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

David was born May 8, 1957 in Wausau to Fred and the late Dorothy (Dolloff) Buettner Jr. He worked as a self-employed general contractor in Wausau building and repairing many homes in the area. David also spent 25 years as the maintenance person for the LaQuinta Inn (formerly Baymont/Budgetel Inn) of Wausau. Being the work-a-holic that he was, David could often be found with his cell phone up to his ear working out one issue or another.

David had a tough and gruff exterior that sometimes hid his outgoing and compassionate side. He would do anything he could to help a friend in need, often times grumbling along the way. David had a wonderful sense of humor which often led him to refer to those around him by one of many colorful nicknames. When he wasn't working, David enjoyed bowling and watching the Packers play.

David is survived by his companion and soul mate of 24 years, Phyllis Knoblock and her children, Lisa (Jack) Rothmeyer and her daughters, Jennifer and Sarah (Demitri), Heather Fay and Jason Habeck; daughters, Lindsay Buettner and Stephanie Buettner; father, Fred Buettner Jr.; siblings, Jeff Buettner, Michael Buettner and Mary (Steve) Blanchard; his furry little buddy, Tigger Bear the cat; and extended family and friends.

There will be a memorial visitation for David on Wednesday, September 3rd at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau beginning at 1:00 PM and concluding at 3:00 PM with a short service. You may sign our family guestbook at www.helke.com.
