David A. Seehafer, 99, Wausau, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Rennes Health and Rehab Center, Weston.
David was born in Wausau, on February 23, 1911. He graduated from Wausau High School in 1928, with additional studies in accounting. He was employed by Runkel Abstract and Title from 1928 to 1933; and Underwood Veneer from 1933 to 1951, where he served as secretary/treasurer and assistant general manager. He was part owner and president of Hatley Veneer Company from 1952 to 1966. In 1966, he became president of Citizens Bank and Trust, where he had served as a director since 1946. He retired from Citizens in 1976, as chairman of the board.
Mr. Seehafer served on the Wausau Hospital board for 6 years; the Wausau Board of Education for 17 years; the Wausau Area Chamber of Commerce for 2 years; and the Wisconsin-Michigan Timber Producers Association for 19 years.
He was married to Elvera Lemke on June 20, 1936; she preceded him in death in 1989.
He touched many lives in his support for higher education throughout the years. He was an avid golfer and member of the Wausau Country Club for over 50 years. A regret of David’s was having to give up golf at the age of 94. Faith was very important throughout his life and was evident in his lifelong dedication to Trinity Lutheran Church. He was an avid reader and learner, keeping up with news, sports, and politics his entire life. Everyone enjoyed sharing knowledge with David.
During all his life, he enjoyed working in the woods at his summer home on Clear Lake, near Tomahawk. In his final years he took great pleasure from visits with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Sue) Seehafer, Rhinelander, and Daniel (Joey) Seehafer, Mosinee; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife, David was predeceased by his parents; brother, Walter; sister, Marian Lawrenz; and son, David Allan.
A funeral service celebrating David’s life will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Reverend Gary Schultz will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Chapel, Wausau. Family will receive guests beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of services, Friday, at the church.
Memorials will be directed to educational scholarships, of the family’s choice, at a later date.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff at Rennes Health and Rehab, and Dr. Richetto, for the wonderful hands on care of David.
