Delores Jonas

Delores was born August 6th 1923, the daughter of the late Frank and Francis (Bartelt) Brummond. She was a graduate of Wausau High School. During World War II, she worked as a typist and timekeeper at Brementon Navy Yard, Washington. On December 7th 1946, she was united in marriage to Howard C. Jonas, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Wausau.

Delores had a great love for family, friends, and for all people; her interests, hobbies, and careers were a reflection of this devotion. She had many gifts, such as working as a color artist and receptionist at Toburen Studio; helping with costumes for Marathon High School, where she was secretary for 18 years; playing the organ at Bertermann Memorial Chapel, Rib Mountain; and teaching Sunday and Bible Schools at Rib Mountain Lutheran Church, where she was a dedicated member and part of the Ladies' Aid.

In 1977, she began volunteering at both the Wausau Hospital and Bethesda Thrift Store, where she was assistant manager in later years. Delores loved the arts, musical and concerts, a good game of cards, traveling, reading, and had many fond memories of dancing in her younger years.

On Saturday, December 1st 2012, Delores I. Jonas died under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice, at Wellington Place, with her daughter at her side. She was 89 years old.

She will be remembered by her daughter, Pauline Witte, Middleton, WI; son, Charles H. Jonas, LaCrosse, WI; sister-in-law, Henrietta Kolbe, Florida; and many friends. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, in November 1977.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, December 6th, at Rib Mountain Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Reverend Thomas Hoelter will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Family will receive guests on Thursday, at church, beginning at 10 a.m., until the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethesda Thrift Store, in honor of the many hours Delores spent there.
