Dennis L. "Goot" Gutknecht, 64, of Wausau, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Mount View Care Center under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. He was born to the late Edwin and Lillian (Uttech) Gutknecht on June 17, 1947 in Wausau. Dennis attended local schools and lived in this area all of his life. He worked at Federal Mogul for 45 years, and worked his way up performing different jobs over his career.
Goot served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He worked on the communication systems that the military used in the country during the war. He was a member of the Man of Honor Society in Wausau and VFW Burns Post #388.
Many people knew Goot. He was known for his great sense of humor and was always in good spirits. He had many friends, and could be found out talking to people and sharing stories or jokes. Goot liked being at one of his favorite taverns, where he could watch NASCAR, he especially liked Jimmy Johnson, shoot pool, or just be around his friends and share a laugh. Goot also enjoyed the outdoors. He would hunt with his family or head west to go on a camping trip.
Dennis is survived by his brother, Gerald (Jan) Gutknecht; sister, Cheryl (Tom) Fehl; nephew, John (Chris) Gutknecht; and good friends, Charlie and Craig.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Lillian.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau, with the Rev. Gary Schultz, of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau, officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 9:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, with military honors by VFW Burns Post #388.
