Donald Walter Froemming, 86, of Wausau, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born to Walter and Marie (Norris) Froemming in Wausau on July 19, 1929. Don grew up in Wausau and attended local schools including Wausau East High School. He joined the U.S. Navy before completing high school and was stationed in Norfolk, VA, and Massachusetts. He worked in the boiler room aboard the U.S.S. Yellowstone. After he was discharged from the Navy, he married Marion Schultz in Pine City, MN on October 6, 1952. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage.
Donald worked as a cobbler at Walt's Shoe Repair, a shop he took over from his father, until he retired in May of 1999. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and American Legion Montgomery-Plant-Dudley Post 10 in Wausau. He enjoyed spending time outside, whether it was hunting, fishing, or at the cottage with family and friends. He was a gifted woodworker and everyone in the family had their own special piece crafted by Don. It was important to him to be with his family, so they had nights playing dominos or other board games, and he was a mentor and role model to his grandchildren and some of the neighborhood kids up north. He also liked to bowl and play golf.
He will miss his Black Lab friend, Sam.
Survivors include his wife, Marion; children, Daniel (Kathie) Froemming, Michael (Vickie) Froemming, and Lisa (Eric) Whitburn; sister, Barbara (Roger) Schultz; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, Jennifer, Christopher, Becky, Natalie, Clinton, and Luke; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lois Schultz; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
