Doris E. Schmieden, 88, of Wausau, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Hospice House under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born in the town of Stettin to the late Fred and Freda (Rehorst) Will on May 14, 1923. Doris lived in the area all of her life. She met her husband, Earl, while going to dances at Rib River Ballroom. They were married on August 25, 1950 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Wausau.
Doris was a homemaker and helped operate the family farm in the town of Maine. She helped with milking, feeding, harvesting, and any other chores when needed. She and her husband found time to garden and raise a lot of their own produce. She also worked outside the home, for a time, making fishing lures, and later at Lemkea�(TM)s Cheese. Doris enjoyed crafting, baking, canning, and sewing. She liked playing cards, travelling and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in the town of Maine where she was in the Ladies Guild and spent many hours making quilts. Doris was a 60-year member of the Homemakers Club and hosted her last party this past August.
She is survived by her husband, Earl; daughter, Mary Kay (Tom) Zarnke of Woodbury, MN; two grandchildren, Matthew (Rebecca) Zarnke and Alyssa (Duncan) McLeod; four great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Caden, Gabriella, and Cael; sister-in-law, Florence; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George, Raymond (Lila), Fred (Pearl), and Wilbur; and sister, Mildred (Ned) Revie.
A funeral service will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church, 5304 N. 44th Ave., Wausau (town of Maine) with the Rev. Dan Sire officiating. Friends and family may call beginning at 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, and again on Saturday at 9:00 am until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
