Doris Telschow, 86, of Wausau passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Wausau Manor.
She was born November 14, 1929 in Stratford to the late Bhurnard and Bertha (Hoefs) Custer. She grew up on the family dairy farm with her brother, Harold and sister, Bernice. After graduating from Stratford High School, Doris worked several jobs which included waitressing at Kreske's, working as a telephone operator for GTE and a bookkeeper at the 7-UP bottling plant in Wausau. On September 16, 1950, Doris married Harold Telschow at Zion Lutheran Church, Stratford. They raised their family in Wausau with Harold working at People's State Bank and Doris taking care of their home and daughters, Jayne and Nancy. They attended Trinity Lutheran Church where they were active volunteers and sang in the church choir. She also volunteered at the Missouri Synod district office. Doris will be remembered for her feisty personality, refreshing sense of humor, her ability to listen to others and the love she had for her family and friends. Whether it was bowling, traveling, reading, needlework, playing Dominos, volunteering for the American Legion Auxiliary or helping out at Jayne's school, Doris was a woman who always kept busy.
Survivors include her daughters, Jayne Telschow of Wausau, Nancy (Jeff) Graveen of Wausau, two grandsons, Nathan and Samuel Graveen, sister-in-law, Imogene Custer of Stratford and brother-in-law, Delmar (Audrey) Telschow of Marshfield. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, infant son, David, brother, Harold Custer and sister, Bernice (Floyd) Gereau.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 501 Stewart Ave., Wausau. Reverend Gary Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Stratford. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau and again at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
