Dorothy Jahns, 87, of Wausau passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Aspirus Hospice House surrounded by her family.
She was born March 15, 1927 in Junction City to the late Fred and Martha (Neumann) Brown Jr. In her earlier years, Dorothy was a machinist at Marathon Foundry during WWII then later at Wausau Piston Ring and Connor Wood Products. On April 12, 1947, Dorothy married Melvin Jahns in Junction City. They moved to Wausau and raised their four children, LeRoy, Robin, Pam and Randy. While Melvin worked at 3M, Dorothy worked at Rib Mountain IGA. During her 40 years with the store, Dorothy took great pride in her work and will be remembered for the many friends she made while working the check-out counter. She loved taking care of her family and was affectionately called "Grandma Dot". Dorothy enjoyed listening to Polka music, tending to her flower garden and was a huge fan of the Brewers.
Survivors include her children, LeRoy (Patricia) Jahns of Rib Mountain, Robin Kozlowski of Wausau, Pam (Lyle) Schield of Weston, Randy (Tari) Jahns of Rudolph, seven grandchildren, Jade (Paul Deininger) Marten, Eric (Amber) Kozlowski, Drew (Shannon) Kozlowski, Carrie Mueller, Brad Schield, Grace and Allison Jahns, five great grandchildren, Alex Rein, Brady Marten, Connor Kozlowski, Chloe and Riley Mueller, two brothers, Ken (Clara) Brown of Wisconsin Rapids, Fred (Gerti) Brown of Junction City and sister-in-law, Vina Brown of Wisconsin Rapids. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin on August 17, 1987, two brothers, George and Charles Brown and two sisters, Edna Skibba and Lorraine Yonke.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 501 Stewart Ave., Wausau. Reverend Zach Holdorf will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau and at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
