Dorothy Kufahl

Dorothy L. Kufahl, 88, of Wausau, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

She was born to the late Leo and Louise (Pruss) Brandt on May 20, 1923 in Marathon. She married Charles Kufahl on July 11, 1948 in Wausau. Dorothy was a homemaker, helped on the family dairy farm in the town of Maine, was a teacher in some of the area country schools, and most recently was a teachers aid at Grant School. She enjoyed her time there and always looked forward to going there to help.

Dorothy loved and enjoyed her family very much, she especially treasured the time that she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a lover of the outdoors, which was reflected in the flowers and gardening that she put time and care in for the enjoyment of others and herself. Dorothy liked bird watching as well. She could be found in the kitchen baking, or off doing one of her crossword puzzles or reading. Dorothy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and of the Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her sons, Wendell, Darwin (Debbie), Perry (Shelley), and Steve (Rachael); five grandchildren, Dustin, Deric, Stephanie, Lisa Joy, and Abigail; two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Owen; brothers, Clemont Brandt, and LaVern (Delores) Brandt; and sister, Gerraine Sturm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; and parents.

A funeral service will take place at 12 noon on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church (Town of Maine), 6720 County Road A, Wausau, with the Rev. Nathaniel Biebert officiating. Friends and family may call beginning at 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, and again on Thursday beginning at 11:00 am until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Town of Maine.
