Dorothy Scoles

Dorothy Emmaline Scoles, 84, Wausau, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Wellington Place under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Dorothy was born December 4, 1928 in Bolivar, Missouri to the late Bernhardt "Ben" and Ernestina "Tina" (Herman) Doede. She married Virgil Scoles on August 25, 1951 in the Town of Maine. The couple was blessed with five children; Walter, Rhonda, Susan, Joe and Nancy. Sadly, Virgil died suddenly on February 8, 1960 after less than nine years of marriage. Dorothy took on the challenge of raising five children on her own working very hard to provide for her family; waitressing, factory work and most proudly as a certified nurse's aide at Wausau Hospital.

Dorothy dearly loved her children and was a devoted grandmother, always making each and every one of her grandchildren feel special. She also had a bit of a free spirit, known for setting out for a drive and winding up in Canada or three states away just because she liked to drive. In her free time, Dorothy enjoyed gambling at the casino, cooking wonderful meals, knitting and working in her large garden.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Rhonda Scoles of Wausau, Susan Erickson of Shawano, Joe (Margaret) Scoles of Two Rivers and Nancy (Ken) Kolpacki of Wausau; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Schwartz; sister-in-law, Phyllis Doede and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her son, Walter Scoles; granddaughter, Stacey Erickson; great-granddaughter, Peyton Erickson; brothers, Glen and Francis Doede; and sister, Elva Anderson.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow the service in Maple Grove Cemetery, Town of Maine.
