Dr. Earl W. Johnson, 92, of Wausau, passed away January 18th 2013. He was born July 27th 1920, in Highland Park, MI, to the late David and Jennie Johnson.
He served in the U.S. Cavalry while attending veterinary school. Earl attended undergraduate classes at Michigan State University and graduated from Michigan State University – School of Veterinary Medicine, in Lansing. Upon graduation in 1944, he moved to Wausau to open his practice, retiring in 2005. In 1949, he married Ivanette Johnston.
Earl was a member of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association and a life member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He was active in establishing the original Marathon County Humane Society. In addition, he was a past member and president of the Rib Mountain Gem and Mineral Society, member of the Badger State Archeological Society, the Wisconsin Archeological Society and a charter member of the Wausau Antique Automobile Club. Earl was a member of First United Methodist Church, Wausau.
He is survived by his wife, Ivanette; son, David (Janalyn) Johnson, Merrill; daughter, Jill (Dale) Helmke, Wausau; two granddaughters, Julie (Brian) Barger, Bentonville, AR, and Alexandra Johnson, Merrill; two great-granddaughters, Sienna and Emma Barger, Bentonville, AR; sister, Mae Atkinson, Clinton Township, MI; and two nieces, Linda Braun, Clinton Township, MI, and Christine Atkinson, Sterling Heights, MI.
