Earl Plautz

Earl Richard Plautz, 91, of Wausau, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016, at Aspirus Hospice House.

Earl was born on September 16, 1924, to Richard and Ella (Kufahl) Plautz on the family farm in the Town of Texas. He was married to Mildred Franz on April 29, 1944 in Wausau and she preceded in him in death in 2012. Earl was brought up with a strong work ethic and faith that lasted with him his entire life.

For 33 years, Earl worked for Wausau paper, starting out as a foreman and eventually working as a machine room supervisor later in his career. His son, Jeff, started a kitchen cabinet business and Earl worked there for 17 years alongside his son. In addition to his many years working, Earl served his country in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946.

Many in his family would say that work was his hobby. His leading by example was appreciated by his family, especially his strong faith. However, he did have other hobbies including golfing, hunting, and enjoying sports, including the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. Time with family and friends was cherished and his ability to share his infectious laugh was enjoyed by all.

Survivors include his children, Mary (Jim) Plautz of Merrill, Dixie (Jerry) Karau of Green Bay, Laurie Schmidt of Wausau, Cheryl Plautz of Wausau, John (Kathy) Plautz of Rhinelander, Jeff (Brenda) Plautz of Wausau, and Debra (David) Kempf of Wausau; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Marian Plautz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; parents, Richard and Ella; brothers, Edgar, Elmer, Elgart, and Eldred; sister, Ruth; and sister-in-law, Rosemary Plautz.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, 709 Sixth St., Wausau. Family and friends may call beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park, town of Texas.
