Edna Schroeder

Edna E. Schroeder, 97, of Wausau, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Our House Senior Living, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born in the Town of Rib Falls on March 16, 1917, to the late Emil and Olga (Wilde) Kummerow. She spent her early life in Rib Falls and later married Gilbert Schroeder at the Rib Falls United Methodist Church in 1936. They remained there farming until 1956 when they moved to 20th Avenue in Wausau.

Edna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, needlework, reading, gardening, traveling, watching baseball, and playing cards and Bingo. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Wausau, participating in the many circles, belonging to the Hilltoppers Senior group, Marathon County Homemakers, and a gardening club. For over 40 years Edna worked at the voting polls in Stettin, then Wausau, and later assisted seniors in nursing homes with absentee ballots.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Allen) Buttke; son, Dick (Susan) Schroeder; sister, Helen Zumann; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and former daughter-in-law, Dorothy Schroeder.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; son, Dennis; parents, Emil and Olga; brother, Delos; sister, Margaret Moellendorf; brothers-in-law, Marvin Moellendorf and Bill Zumann; and beloved cat, BaBa.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1101 Elm Street, Wausau, with Rev. Tim Vanden Langenberg officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Rib Falls Methodist Cemetery, town of Rib Falls.
