Edward Lunkos

Edward Lunkos, 87, of Mosinee passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Ed was born January 21, 1924 in Montreal, WI to the late Ben and Angeline (Munka) Lunkos. At the age of 6, Ed's parents had passed away and he and his younger sister, Florence, were raised by their older siblings. He attended school in Montreal, and then worked for the Civil Conservation Corp watching for fires in various watchtowers throughout the Prentice area in northern Wisconsin. After serving in the Army at the end of WWII he married Catherine Sauzer in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 1982. Ed worked in Stevens Point at Rudy's Body Shop and then for O'Malley's in Wausau until his retirement. On February 1, 1986, Ed married Joyce (Thiel) Polley in Madison. They enjoyed watching the wildlife on their property that Ed loved to feed. He also loved his dogs and cats and even his pet goose that strayed on their land. Ed was known for his wonderful baked bread and the fresh garden vegetables he grew and canned. He relaxed listening to Big Band music and visiting the relatives up north.
Survivors include his wife Joyce of Mosinee, two daughters, Mary Washburn of Maryville, WA, Jan Lunkos of Rockford, Ill, four step children, Lisa (John) Brandenburg of Mosinee, Kathy (Steve) Burgess of LaCrosse, Henry (Donna) Polley Jr. of Waunakee, Brian Polley of Mosinee, 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and his sister, Florence (Jerry) Rowe of Wind Lake, WI. Ed was further preceded in death by 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21st (Ed's birthday) at Good News Baptist Church, 619 Marsh Dr., Mosinee. Reverend Duane Jass will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.
