Elaine Gaulke, 88, Wausau, died February 18, 2008 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.
Elaine Marie Radant was born on January 3, 1920 in Wausau to the late Lorenz and Marie (Lemke) Radant. She graduated from Wausau High School and furthered her education by graduating with a business degree. In 1940, Elaine was married to George W. Baird at St. Paul's UCC in Wausau. The couple was blessed with one son, George L. Baird. George W. Baird, a fighter pilot during WWII, was killed in action in 1944. On March 22, 1947, Elaine was united in marriage to Victor Gaulke in Milwaukee. Elaine and Victor were also blessed with a son, Greg. Elaine and Victor spent forty-nine loving years together before his death in 1996.
Elaine was a very good mother to her sons. In addition her interests extended beyond the home. For many years she worked as a bookkeeper and office manager. At home, Elaine was a wonderful cook drawing upon her German heritage. She always put others first and was very giving to those who needed her help. Some of her favorite pastimes were bowling and playing bridge with her lady friends. For many years, Elaine was very active in the Elks.
Elaine is survived by her sons, George (Lavora) Baird of Lodi, and Greg Gaulke of Wausau; grandchildren, Tamara (Bruce) Sakrison and Brian (Jennifer) Baird; step-grandchildren, Omar Al-Honi and Ahmed Al-Honi; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Shane Sakrison. She is preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Radant and sister, Irene Pizer.
