Elaine Johnson

Elaine Emily Johnson, 92, Wausau, died Monday, June 19, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Elaine was born February 10, 1925 in Wausau to the late Arthur and Lydia (Porath) Woller. She is a graduate of Wausau High School. Elaine married the love of her life, Gerhard Johnson, on June 1, 1946 in the Town of Maine. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Carla. Over the years, Elaine worked for Pied Piper Shoes early on before retiring after 18 years with Wausau Insurance where she had worked as a typist. Elaine and Gerhard celebrated 60 years together prior to his death in March 2007.

Elaine was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all. She was a very generous woman who always valued family above all else, an example of this was living next door to her sister, Naomi for many years. Since 2002, Elaine has been "mom" to her grandchildren following the death of her daughter, Carla. She was an excellent cook and baker also enjoying crocheting and playing cards with friends. Elaine spent time volunteering with the Trinity Welfare Workers and the VFW Auxiliary. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling to visit family and Gerhard's WWII buddies.

Elaine is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Todd Schuster of Wausau and Jody Galella of Weston; great-grandsons, Brandon and Justin Wanta; and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Gene Schuster; granddaughter-in-law, Stacey Schuster and sister, Naomi Woller.

The funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. Pastor Zach Holdorf will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church on Friday. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.
