Eldon "Joe" Emmerich, 90, of
Wausau
died peacefully on
Thursday, January 1, 2009
at St. Clare's Hospital, Weston.
He was born
October 21, 1918
in the town of
Hamburg
to the late Harry and Anna (Giese) Emmerich. Joe was a 1937 graduate of
Wausau
High School
.
He joined the Army and was proud to serve during WWII at the Headquarters of the European Theatre of Operations and in the US Army Staff Message Center in
London
. Joe went on to serve in the Wisconsin National Guard 32
nd
Division and the Army Reserve, retiring as a Captain. He was a member of American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10 and VFW Burns Post #388. In his younger years, Joe enjoyed bowling and golf. On
March 15, 1952
, Joe married Eunice Dickman of Birnamwood. They raised their family in
Wausau
where Joe worked at Wisconsin River Supply Company where he retired in 1983 as Vice President. They were active members of

Lutheran
Church
, where Joe served on the church council, helped in the Carlift program as well as the fair booth. Joe was also a member of the Elk's Club and the Last Men's Club.
Survivors include one son, Jay (Deb) Emmerich of Wausau, one daughter, LeAnne (Tom Ferris) Puntney of Madison, four grandchildren, Wade (Kelly) Puntney of Wausau, Craig Puntney of Madison, Jim and Anna Emmerich of Wausau, two great grandchildren, Lana and Ethan Puntney, and a niece, Ann Buska of Wausau. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice, and his sister, Elvira Jacobson.
Memorial services will be at

Monday, January 5, 2009
at

Lutheran
Church
. Reverend Scott Mann will officiate. Burial will be in
Restlawn
Memorial Park
at a later date. Visitation will be Monday from
10:00 a.m.
