Eleanor Fern Kischel Hoyt, 95, died on Thursday, March 6, 2008 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born July 23, 1912 in Wausau to the late Darwin and Rose (Ostring) Kischel.
Eleanor graduated from Wausau High school and from Carroll College. While working at what was then the Wausau Vocational School she was introduced to a new instructor by the name of Lawrence Hoyt. Eleanor and Lawrence were married on November 26, 1936 and spent the rest of their lives in Wausau. Lawrence died in 2004.
Throughout her life she was devoted to her family, her community, and her church. For a time she worked for her father, Darwin Kischel, in the businesses he founded - Kischel Wholesale Grocery and Central Wisconsin Paper Company. But Eleanor's greatest pleasures were spending time with her many friends and family, whether in Wausau, in northern Wisconsin, or in Arizona.
Eleanor is survived by a daughter, Joan (Fred) Rogers of Chanhassen, Minn.; a son, James Hoyt of Middleton; five grandchildren - Daniel (Julie) Rogers of Bloomington, Minn., Kate (Robert) Burda of Dallas, Texas., Randall (Amy) Hoyt of Wauwatosa, Rebecca Hoyt of Madison, and Diane (Brandon) Hagey of Franklin; three great grandchildren - Shannon Rogers of Bloomington, Minn. and Emily Hoyt and George Hoyt of Wauwatosa; a sister, Phyllis McCusker of Verona, and by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, and by a brother, Ralph Kischel.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 1:00 PM, at the First Presbyterian Church, Wausau. The family will greet friends following the service.
