Eleanor Mearek who resided in Eau Claire since 2001 passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Dove Hospice, Eau Claire at the age of 99.
She was born June 11, 1915 in Hartford, Wisconsin to the late Tomas and Martha (Damask) Mientke. The family moved to Bevent where they farmed and were members of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church. She later moved to Milwaukee and worked at Milwaukee Stamping and Enameling. On November 27, 1936, Eleanor married Frank Kamin in Milwaukee. They moved to Wausau where Eleanor was a janitress for fifteen years at a Wausau business retiring in 1964. Frank passed away on December 18, 1959. Several years later, Eleanor met Clinton Mearek and they were married on September 19, 1964. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1996. Some of Eleanor's favorite pastimes included embroidery, playing cards and puzzles. Eleanor had a "green thumb" with plants flourishing from her touch. Her children and grandchildren were most likely to visit whenever she baked her home-made bread. In her younger years Eleanor enjoyed family camping trips and fishing on Razorback Lake near Sayner.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine (Luther) Lambrecht of Eau Claire, Carol Cline of Florida, twelve grandchildren, Keith (Pam) Lambrecht, Gary and Mike Lambrecht, Lorie (Kevin) Plaza, Kathy (Vince) Kocour, Lew (Michelle) Lambrecht, Roxanne (Mark) Kamin, Romy (Mike) Goodenough, Kurt (Sue) Schlehlien, Kim (Kent) Ehrensberger, Todd( Jenna) Cline, and Christine (George) Flory, fifteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, son-in-law, Robert Booton of Theresa, half sister, Alvina Kurszewski of Milwaukee and nieces and nephews. Eleanor was further preceded in death by one daughter, Diane Schlehlein Booton, two sons, Robert and Gary Kamin, two sons-in-law, William Schlehlein and Myron Cline, granddaughter-in-law, Sheila Lambrecht, brothers, Norbert, Edward, Thadeus and infant brother, Clemens Mientke
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 1104 S. 9th Ave., Wausau. Father Tom Huff will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. You may sign our family guest book at Helke.com.
