Eleanora Esther Augusta Heckendorf, 90, Wausau, died Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Wausau Manor under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
Eleanora was born on January 13, 1925 in the Town of Berlin to the late Anton and Elsie (Kopplin) Neumann. She married Edward Heckendorf on October 9, 1947 at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, Town of Maine. Eleanora loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eleanora enjoyed baking, canning and sausage making. She liked attending the Wisconsin Valley Fair and spent many hours running the kitchen for the VFW. Eleanora is a past-president of the VFW Auxiliary Burns Post #388, a Gold Circle member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Ladies Guild at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, past Chaplin with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and a member of the Friendship Club.
Eleanora is survived by her loving husband of nearly 68 years, Edward; sons, Eugene , Elroy (Kay), Eldon (Barbara) and Larry (Dawn) all of Wausau; grandchildren, Heidi (Ross) Wolfe, Kurt (Roshell) Heckendorf, Denise Rosalind, Cory (Makensie) Heckendorf, Michael (Jamie) Heckendorf, Jamie (Ben) Collins, Kristie (Daniel) Paul and Shanna (Cody) Thorson; great-grandchildren, Megan, Hannah and Tyler Wolfe, Gabriella Heckendorf, Arianne Heckendorf, Neland and Emmet Paul and Chase Collins; sister-in-law, Erma Neumann of Merrill; and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her brother, Leslie Neumann and daughter-in-law, Sherry Nowak Heckendorf.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Wausau. Reverend Robert Edwards will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday, August 3 at Helke Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, visitation will continue Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church.
