Elgart "Junior" Baumann, Jr., passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice at Benedictine Living Community. He was born June 29, 1943, in Wausau, to the late Elgart Sr. and Luella (Sturm) Baumann. On June 3, 1967, he married Eunice Wilde at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau.
In 1961, Elgart graduated from Wausau High School, and in 1963 from Wausau Technical Institute. He served in the U.S. Army at the Quartermaster Corps as a printer. Upon his return to Wausau from serving in the U.S. Army, Elgart worked at Wilson-Hurd as a printer until December 1968 when he went to work for the City of Wausau as a heavy equipment operator for 33 years until his retirement. After retiring from the City of Wausau, he worked at Brickner's of Wausau as a shuttle driver. He was a life member of the American Legion Montgomery-Plant-Dudley Post 10, serving in various capacities. He was also an active member of the Man of Honor Society, Central Wisconsin Polka Club, and Pommerscher-Verein of Central Wisconsin. In October, 2016, Elgart was privileged to go on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. He enjoyed playing sheepshead, Scrabble, checkers, and hunting. He also enjoyed taking day trips, and short drives around the area. Elgart was rarely seen without a toothpick in his mouth.
Elgart is survived by his wife, Eunice. His children; son, Timothy (Beverly), daughters, Brenda Bolin and Angela Burton; and grandson Andrew Bolin, all of Wausau.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elgart Sr. and Luella; sister, Kathleen Gee; son-in-law, Darrel Burton; and his in-laws, Erwin and Viola (Ringle) Wilde.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Helke Funeral Home in Wausau, from 4pm - 7pm, and again on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 9am until the time of services at 11am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau. Interment will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park following services on Friday. Military honors will take place at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Trinity Lutheran School Education Grant Fund would be greatly appreciated.
