Elizabeth Brehmer

September 9, 1927 — November 23, 2014

Elizabeth Helen (Petersen) Brehmer, age 87, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, November 23, 2014, in El Paso, Texas.
Mrs. Brehmer was born on September 9, 1927, in Schofield, Wisconsin, to parents Delbert and Minnie Petersen. She was baptized and confirmed in Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, Schofield Wisconsin, where her grandparents, Theodore and Albertine Muelver were founding members. She graduated from Wausau East High School in 1946 and worked as a bookkeeper for Marathon Electric, in Wausau, Wisconsin, for over ten years.
Later, she accepted a position at the District President's Office at The Lutheran Center in Wausau, where she served as accountant for many years. It was her dream job where she could make a meaningful contribution to the church, be surrounded by warm and inspiring people in a beautiful setting, and, most of all, have regular devotions with her friend, President and Reverend Henry Simon.
Elizabeth was a loving, dedicated, and hard-working wife and mother. She married Frank W. Brehmer, Wausau, Wisconsin, on August 14, 1948. They had three children: two daughters and one son, who died at birth. They built their first home in Wausau together, and then built their summer house in northern Wisconsin, where the family spent many happy summers. When they retired, they enjoyed touring in their motor home, eventually settling in Harlingen, Texas, a place they loved, for 14 years.
The word "Helpful" describes Elizabeth very well. She was a devoted, long-standing volunteer for St. Peter's Church, neighborhood schools, and local charities. Elizabeth enjoyed music and needlework, and had a special connection with animals. Family and friends will always remember her modesty, empathy, sly sense of humor, and care for others before herself. She managed the challenges of age with grace.
Mrs. Brehmer is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Diane Brehmer and John Reese, of St. Paul, Minnesota; daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Joe Upsal, of El Paso, Texas; and a grandson, Kent Reese, of New York. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and one brother, Delbert Petersen Jr., of Wausau.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014, St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1351 Grand Avenue, Schofield, Wisconsin with Rev. Walter Davidson officiating. Visitation will begin at 10: 30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
Memorial donations can be sent to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1351 Grand Avenue, Schofield, Wisconsin, 54476.
