Elizabeth "Betty" Hoerter, 91, Wausau, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Sylvan Crossings Assisted Living, Wausau.
She was born on September 8, 1920, to the late Henry and Ella (Ohrmundt) Mathwick in the Town of Stettin. Betty lived her entire life in the Wausau area. While married to her first husband, they had two children, Lynnette, and Sally. In 1974, she married her second husband Edward Hoerter. They spent many years together, until his death in 2003. He also brought children to their new family, and although they were step children, Betty treated them as her own.
Betty was a member of the Ladies V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #388, where she was the musician, and historian for them for 25 years. She also volunteered her time at Bethesda Thrift Store in Wausau, North Central Health Care, and Riverside Sounds musical orchestra. She enjoyed gardening, decorative painting, needlework and paper crafts. She loved to entertain friends and family, and was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family will always remember the famous birthday phone call. If it was someone's birthday and she knew, she would call them up and sing Happy Birthday to them. Betty was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau where she belonged to several groups.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Lynnette Simmons, Speedway, IN, and Audrey (Randy) Oldenberg, Mosinee; sons, Lyle (Judy) Hoerter, Delray Beach, FL, Lon (Lucy) Hoerter, Wausau, and Charles (Jaynee) Hoerter, Wausau; son in law, Stuart Gartmann, Kronenwetter; sisters, Helen Clark, Aurora, CO, Charlotte (James) Becker, Sun City, AZ.; ten grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
