Elmer Michael Dellenbach, 91, Wausau, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Benedictine Living Center under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
Elmer was born November 30, 1923 in Wausau to the late Arthur Henry and Amelia "Molly" (Mesalk) Dellenbach. He graduated from Wausau High School in 1942 and served his country in the US Army during World War II, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. Elmer married Caroline Chaignot on July 26, 1947. The couple was blessed with two children; Michael and Debbie. Over the years, Elmer worked for Wausau Ironworks, Minnesota Mining and retired from the US Postal Service. Sadly, Caroline died October 5, 1983 after 36 years together. Love found him once more when Elmer met Constance Witter at a polka dance at the Labor Temple. They were married on June 30, 1992 and their two families became one.
Elmer was a serious, hard working man who was loving in his own way and always there for his family when they needed him. He enjoyed having the family together for the holidays. In his free time, Elmer liked to go bowling, deer hunting and spending time with his dogs. Elmer proudly went on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight in recognition for his service during WWII and was an active member of the VFW Burns Post #388.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Constance "Connie" Dellenbach of Wausau; children, Michael (Rosalie) Dellenbach of Goose Creek, SC and Debbie (friend, LaVonne Akey) Coerper of Wausau, grandchildren, David (Blair) Dellenbach, Samantha Dellenbach, Linda (fiancée, Eric) Stewart and Brett Coerper; great-granddaughter, Sierra Mount; step-children, Stuart (Johna) Helke and Jackie Helke; sister-in-law, Sharon Dellenbach; and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Dellenbach and sister, Ruth (Clifford) Henke Sr.
