Enola Mae Gaulke, 91, of Wausau, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born to Monroe and Olive (Fowles) Ross on June 28, 1921, in Oconto Falls. Enola attended Marathon County Normal School and Wausau Junior and Senior High Schools. She married Harold H. Gaulke in Waukon, Iowa on November 23, 1940.
Enola will be remembered as a person of deep faith and her church was very important in her life. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wausau, where she was able to worship and participate in activities that were important to her and reflected her strong belief in the Lord. She was a member of Young At Heart and the Ladies' Aid. She worked at Strassenfest, helped with the annual cookie baking, and made two needlepoint kneelers for the church. Enola was also a hospice volunteer and enjoyed needle work and ceramics.
She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Gaulke Trucking and Excavating Co. She also worked at Larson Cleaners, Wausau Cleaners, Marathon Battery, and Marathon Rubber.
Enola is survived by a brother, Norris Ross of Milwaukee; sister, Marcia Wirkus of Edgar; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Frederich of Merrill, Laverne Johnson of Hungry Horse, MT, and Marian Wozniczka of Wausau; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents, Monroe and Olive; brother, Oliver Ross; several sisters and brothers-in-law; and step-father, William Borth.
A funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, 709 Sixth St., Wausau, with Rev. Steven Gjerde officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, town of Texas.
