Esther M. Hornik, 83, formerly of Wausau died Friday, May 23, 2008 at Wissota Health Vent and Rehabilitation Center, Chippewa Falls after a long and courageous battle with Myasthenia Gravis.
She was born December 29, 1924 in the town of Bergen to the late Carl and Rose (Kujawski) Williams Sr. On January 22, 1944, Esther married Walter Hornik in Knowlton. In her younger years, Esther was a nursing assistant at Colonial Manor Nursing Home and Wausau Hospital North. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and embroidery. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, canning, and baking. Esther loved playing cards and board games with her children and grandchildren. For many years, good times were enjoyed at Esther and Walter"s cottage at Lac du Flambeau.
Esther is survived by her children, Walter (Nory) Hornik Jr.of Rothschild, Marlene Patton of Mosinee, Dennis Hornik of Gillett, Rose (Greg) Tryba of Wittenberg, 11 grandchildren, Lisa Churkey, Melissa Patton and special friend Edward Meyer, Walter Hornik III and special friend Stacie Olds, Nichole (Matt) Beliunas, Jessica Hornik, Bonnie Pedersen, Natalie (Jason) Bradshaw, Travis and Cody Hornik, Tyler and Taylor Tryba, 14 great grandchildren, Tara Hornik and Corey Ott, Chris, Bobbie, Joshua, Angela, and Gary Churkey, Destiny and Keegan Hornik, Brooklyn and Trenton Meyer, Preston and Khiana Bradshaw, Amelia Beliunas and one great great granddaughter, Addison Ott, three sisters, Judy (Tom) Miller of Edgar, Dawn (Jose) Hernandez of Lockhart, TX, Louise (Glenn) Pilgrim of Pilager, Minnesota, and three brothers, Myron (Beverly) Williams and Ernie (Bernie) Williams all of Marshfield, and Jerry Williams of Sarasota, Fl, three sister-in-laws, Audrey Williams of Riverview, Fl, Angeline Williams of Round Lake, Ill., and Dorothy (Williams) Roerig of Kaukauna, and numerous nieces and nephews. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, a son Randy, a daughter Lorraine, four brothers, Marvin, Clifford, Harvey and Carl Jr. Williams, and three sisters & brother-in-laws, Isabel (Ambrose) Sterzinger, Ethel (Bob) Shulfer and Lorretta (Charlie) Hackbarth and a sister-in-law, Kathy Williams.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Father Stephen Brice will officiate. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. (Rosary 7 p.m.) at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m.until the time of services.
