Esther Pilz

July 17, 1915 — February 6, 2010

Esther was a woman who will be remembered for her independent spirit and witty sense of humor. Gardening, fishing, and reading were some of Esther’s hobbies; and most of all, she enjoyed bird-watching and sewing.

She was born July 17, 1915, in the town of Easton, the daughter of the late Frank and Minnie (DenHollander) Marten. On July 30, 1938, she was united in marriage to William Pilz, in Lock Port, IL. Shortly after, they moved to Tomahawk, WI, where Esther lived until 2002.

Esther M. Pilz, 94, of Birnamwood, died February 6, 2010, at Langlade Hospital, after a brief illness.

Esther will be missed by her family, including her sisters, Gladys Pilz, Lock Port, IL, and Agnes Gut, Schofield; special niece, Sandy Marten, Eland; sister-in-law, Nancy Marten, Ringle; and many other nieces, nephews, and family members.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1968; 5 brothers, Kermit, Frank, Bill, Elmer, and Cornelius “Bud”; and sister, Meta Hansen.

A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. The Reverend Mark Lewis will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be at Forestville Cemetery, town of Easton, in the spring.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bohlman Manor for the excellent care given to Esther while she was living there.
