Ethel J. Bohl, 92 of Wausau died on Friday, August 8, 2014 at Hospice House in Wausau, WI.
She was born July 13, 1922, in Wausau to Charles W. and Hazel (Maynard) Johnson. On November 24, 1945, she married Armin Behnke who died suddenly in 1964. On July 14, 1984 she married Ervin Bohl who died in 1998.
She was a 1940 graduate of Wausau Senior High and in 1944 she was a cum laude graduate of Milwaukee-Downer College. She also did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Extension and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Ethel began her teaching career at Sheboygan Falls High School. After the death of Armin she resumed teaching at Horace Mann and John Muir Middle Schools in Wausau. She retired in 1984. She was also involved in management at Anderson Bros. and Johnson Co.
Ethel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church on Stewart, Trinity Welfare Workers, the JOY Center of seniors at the church, Friends of Norway, Rib Falls Lodge, Marathon Co. Retired Educators Association, Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 10. She also was a Volunteer at Aspirus Hospital and at Bethesda Thrift Store.
Ethel enjoyed traveling in Continental US as well as Hawaii and Alaska, all of Canada, internationally in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the Scandinavian countries. She was proud of her Swedish heritage.
She bowled in leagues for many years, enjoyed fishing, and loved to call out "Bingo!"
Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Allen (Barbara) Behnke, Wales, WI and Bruce, Mandan, ND, two daughters, Bonnie (Mark) Penno, Iowa City, IA and Laurie (Steven) Hess, Overland Park, KS, two stepdaughters, Pamela (Ronald) Borchardt, Lawrence, KS and Judith (Arthur) Hoch, Alpena, MI; seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, six great- grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren; two sister-in-laws, one brother-in-law, and many dear cousins and friends.
Her parents, husbands and a sister, Alice Forcey, preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 13, 2014 with visitation from 9:30-11:00 AM, all at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Zach J. Holdorf will officiate. Burial will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity's Education Scholarship Fund.
