Ethel Schmidt

Ethel G. "Dewey" Schmidt, 86, of Wausau, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born to the late Paul and Emma (Ably) Heller in Stratford on May 4, 1925. She married Herman Schmidt in April of 1945 in Pine City, Minnesota. Ethel was a life-long member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. She worked at Wausau Paper in Brokaw for 15 years.
Ethel was a person that truly put others before herself. She was very caring of people and was always eager to lend a hand. She enjoyed her family and loved her grandkids. She liked to travel with her sisters and she went to the Dells with her grandkids. Ethel enjoyed some time outdoors and liked to take walks. Most of all Ethel liked to laugh.
Ethel is survived by her life-long companion, Harry Witter; sons, Dennis (Bobbi) Schmidt and Donald (Sue) Schmidt; four grandchildren, Wendy (Tom) Larson, Craig (Chris) Schmidt, Cindy (Scott) Lohrey, and Lisa (Paul) Haag; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan Haag, Mesa Haag, Mitchell Lohrey, Mikala Lohrey, Jacob Schmidt, Benjamin Schmidt, and Samuel Schmidt; sisters, Joyce Strehlow and Ellen Folz; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman in 1959; brothers, Milton Heller and Alvin Heller; and sister, Emogene McCrory.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, August 12, 2011 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 426 Washington St., Wausau, with Pastor Phillip Schneider officiating. Family and friends may call from 9:00 am until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau.
