Eugene Edward Borchardt, 86, Wausau, died Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Asprius Hopsice House under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
Eugene was born March 31, 1930 in Milwaukee to the late Arthur and Margaret (Steiger) Borchardt. After he graduated high school, Eugene faithfully served his country in the US Army before the Korean War. Eugene married Melba (Oberheu) on August 30, 1950 at St. Paul's Church, Grafton, the couple was blessed with two children; Margaret and Robert. He initially worked for Cedarburg Dairy delivering milk, opened a 2nd hand store, and later worked for Tripar delivering fuel oil. Eugene and Melba divorced, but remained close friends through the years.
Eugene was a wonderful grandfather and was very much like a second father to his grandchildren. He enjoyed their many family vacations together to places like St. Germaine to fish and swim. In his free time, Eugene enjoyed collecting anything he could and feeding the birds.
Eugene is survived by his grandchildren, Carrie (Dan) Brodhagen, Christie Meiser, Robby Meiser, Tiffanie (Jason) Haglund and Travis Borchardt; 13 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Michael Meiser; daughter-in-law, Vickie (Mike) Brown; siblings, Rollene (Don) Schroeder and Rollie Borchardt, ex-wife, Melba Borchardt; and many extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Meiser; son, Robert Borchardt; granddaughter, Tracie Meiser; and siblings, Donald Borchardt and Denise Strum.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Rev. Jon Payne will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM at the funeral home on Wednesday. Military rites will be rendered at Helke Funeral Home.
