Eugene was born May 10th 1932, the son of the late Otto and Elsie (Fell) Grebe, on the family dairy farm in the town of Maine. After high school he met Lorraine Kohn and the two were married on December 10th 1953 in Pine City, MN. Together they shared 58 years of marriage, enjoying their time together and raising their 4 children. Eugene was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served stateside during the Korean War.
Eugene worked hard throughout his life. He had various careers as a carpenter, working at the Wausau paper mill for 5 years, and finally working for the state of Wisconsin as safety and building inspector. He retired after 26 years of dedicated service to the state of Wisconsin.
His hobbies revolved around nature. Eugene enjoyed hunting and fishing; woodcutting and making maple syrup. He found satisfaction in helping those around him and supporting his family and friends.
On January 24th 2012, Eugene Roger Grebe, of Wausau, died at the Hospice House, Wausau. He was 79 years old.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Lorraine; 3 children, Sherry Grebe, Jerusalem, Israel, Jeffery Grebe, Athens, WI, and Jess Grebe, Milwaukee, WI; 4 grandchildren, Shannon Duskey, Andrew McInnis, and Katie and Kelsey Grebe; 4 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Shirley Niemeyer and Faye Peters.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Eugenie Buerger; and 4 siblings, Melvin, Elroy, Violet, and Laverne.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28th, at the Helke Funeral Home. Full military honors to follow, provided by V.F.W. Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Burial will be private at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
