Florence Bernice Heeren, 94, Wausau, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Ministry St. Clare's Hospital, Weston.
Florence was born November 23, 1922 in the Town of Weston to the late Herman and Mabel (Patterson) Von Kanel. She attended Wausau High School. Florence married the love of her life Ervin J. Heeren on May 17, 1947 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wausau. The couple was blessed with one son, David. Florence worked for Winkleman department store and later Johnson Hill for a total of 26 years in the receiving department. Sadly, Ervin died on October 29, 1980 after 33 years together.
In Florence's life the two most important things to her were family and faith. Being an only child, she become very close to her in-laws and delighted in becoming a grandmother. Florence enjoyed being with and caring for her grandsons throughout their lives. She enjoyed traveling and many of these trips were to visit family in Florida and friends in Arizona with Ervin. Being a life-long member of St. Paul UCC, Florence thoroughly loved her church and was a faithful member of the "back row group". Over the years, she enjoyed playing cards, cross-stitching, cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers season after season and spoiling her grandsons with her excellent cookies.
Florence is survived by her loving grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Heeren; their mother, Susan (David) Wolf; in-laws, Margie Heeren and Mary Ann and George Zinser; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her son, David, and sister-in-law, Betty Weyeneth.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Monday, January 16, 2017 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wausau. Pastor Phillip Schneider will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Monday at the church. Interment will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau.
